Subject: Netrek Winsock Client?
Has anyone ever thought of compiling a netrek client for windows? I
suppose that it might be slow (possibly too slow) at 9600 or 14.4, but still,
some people (the lucky ones, not I) have direct connections.. Just curious if
anyone has thought about it....

Subject: Problems with Trumpet Winsock hosts file
Running 1.0A of Trumpet Winsock. Name Server works fine but I can't seem to
use names and aliases that are only specified in my hosts file. Is there a
specific directory I need to put the host file in? Anybody got a clue what my
problem might be?

Subject: Getting Trumpet Winsock to use a logon script - help!
Can anyone post a working login script for the Trumpet Winsock? I've tried
to make one, but it doesn't work, so I have to always log-on manually, and
would rather do it automatically.
Please send me e-mail if you can help.

Subject: Chameleon 4.0 opinions wanted
We just purchased Chameleon 4.0 at work,
and it didn't work as it was.
The patch disk didn't ship with it, and
we downloaded that today.
Anybody else using this package?
We've got a custom Windows app that requires a winsock.
Does Microsoft have one?

The VxDBeta version of telnet _is_ nice, but there's one reason I still use
WinQVT...the WinQVT telnet has scroll bars and resizable windows that are very
nice for viewing files larger than your screen without using something along
the lines of "more". I can set the font to a very small font and expand the
window to see a lot of data. If Microsoft applied these features, well, let's
just say Windows wouldn't be the _only_ Microsoft application I'd be using.

Your first mistake.
NT does not need tcpman, or anything to support TCP/IP. It does
it OUT OF THE BOX. Do not change anything. Simply start the TCPIP
service or install the TCPIP portion

undo this.
Also, use the win32 version of qvtnet.

Chameleon allows dynamic IP address assignment -- typical for SLIP
connections. Read up on script macros, "-s" I think. The home
IP address that you must assign becomes nothing more than a dummy value.

I have the hosts file in the same directory as Trumpet Winsock. That directory
is also on my path but I am not sure if that is a requirement. Try putting it
in the same directory and if that still does not work, put that directory on
your path.

in the Config menu of winvn choose Configure Comm and in the
Mail Transport box make sure SMTP is picked. when you try to
post a letter you'll get a editing box with the header info
in it. Eudora doesn't send mail, except to your mail server
which "mails" it using the SMTP protocol. hth

Much more important:
fsp use UDP/IP (ftp TCP/IP), that means fsp uses a stateless protocoll
with ALL pros AND all cons of that.
It's the horror of sysadmins because it's hard to control over firewalls and
the security is poor.
Don't forget: Many systems outside make NO UDP checksum.
IMO a stateless protocoll is not suitable for reliable file transfer.

Subject: Slip server sw wanted
This may be a daft question, but does anyone know if there is a SLIP server
for Winsock package available (preferably shareware or free).
My PC at work has a full internet connection, but I'd like to be able to dial
into it from home, and use the net over SLIP with my work PC as the server.
Regards,
